John Borter Sensei

Sensei John Borter is the head instructor of the Modern Self-Defense Academy in Albany, NY and holds a 5th Degree blackbelt in Modern Jujitsu. With almost 20 years in the martial arts, he also holds blackbelts in a number of systems including Small Circle Jujitsu, US Jujitsu, Combat Hapkido, Han Mu Kwan Hapkido, Tae Kwon Do, and Kyusho-Jitsu, as well as certification in Filipino and Chi-Na locking principles, and has extensive experience in other styles and systems.

Known for his fast, flowing, and dynamic joint locking techniques, Sensei Borter teaches his unique style of jujitsu extensively to martial arts schools, civilian self-defense classes, and military, security, and law enforcement personnel. He is widely known for his popular and fun Modern Jujitsu, Dynamic Micro-Locking, and Pressure Point Self-Defense seminars.

He is the Director and head instructor of the PressurePoint Self-Defense and PressurePoint Defensive Tactics systems, utilizing pressure points and joint manipulation for effective self protection. Both systems have been widely taught to civilians, professionals, law enforcement, and military personnel. He also offers courses to law enforcement and civilians in the use of the Key-Baton Self-Defense Keychain, and is the Director of the ABC Child Safety and Awareness Program.

With Instructor Certifications in Military Combatives, Police Defensive Tactics, and Tactical Security and Executive Protection, he is an internationally recognized and highly coveted Self-Defense Instructor and teaches self-defense seminars and martial arts courses world-wide.

He was inducted into the 1997 World Martial Arts Hall of Fame in recognition for Outstanding Contributions to the Martial Arts, and named 2005 Jujitsu Instructor of the Year and 2007 Master Instructor of the Year for the Valadez Kenpo Association, and is a member in good standing of numerous martial arts organizations. He is an Executive Board Member of the International Combatives Self-Defense Association (ICSDA). He recently completed an intensive KAPAP Level 1 Instructors Certification Course.
