Below, find the 2008 SMAF schedule.  Here’s a key to the schedule:

  • Rotational Session (Red):  If you see more than one instructor listed in a timeslot, that means that those instructors will rotate in and out over the course of the workshop.  Many participants love the rotational workshops because the rotations offer exposure to a higher number of arts.
  • Breakout Sessions (Blue):  Many participants prefer the breakout sessions because the breakouts allow one instructor to teach one subject to greater depth and understanding.
  • Joint Breakouts (Green):  Joint breakouts offer an hour from one instructor followed up by an hour from another.  If you go to the first of two joint breakouts then you must go to one of the second joint breakouts offered by any of the joint breakout instructors.
  • Intensives (Yellow):  In 2007 we experimented for the first time with intensive workshops—3 hour sessions offering in-depth and more focused instruction for a small group of participants.  Participants loved them!  This year we are excited to offer more Intensives.  Please note the following:
      • Intensives are limited to 20 participants
      • You may sign up for an intensive after you sign in that day, first-come, first served.
      • To give more participants an opportunity to attend the Intensives, you may only sign up for one Intensive per day (but you may sign up to be an alternate for other Intensives.  Alternates can join an Intensive if they do not fill.)
      • “Advanced Intensives” are designed for slightly more advanced students—brown belt and up or the equivalent.  These workshops will move at a faster pace through more difficult applications.  Not all Intensives are “Advanced Intensives.”  See schedule below.
  • Martial Arts Showcase!  New this year!  This year we have established an amazing capstone event to SMAF.  Our final timeslot on Sunday will feature a wide range of techniques from a wide range of instructors!
  • Lunch/Snack:  You may purchase lunch by pre-ordering one with us.  We always have some extra lunches but if you do not pre-order lunch, we cannot guarantee that you’ll have one.  Some participants choose to seek out lunch in the surrounding area, but remember that you only have one hour.
  • Banquet:  Our banquet not only offers good eats but also an unparalleled opportunity to sit and talk with instructors on a more personal basis.   Always filled with fun and laughter, many great friendships have emerged from out banquet over the years.
  • Demonstration:  Yes, the 5 minute rule is still in effect!  Last year’s demonstration was a great success.  You don’t want to miss this one!  Come see our instructors showcase what they do!
  • Weapon Workshops:  Some of our workshops involve weapon instruction.  While we always have some extra weapons, if you plan on attending a weapon workshop, please bring the appropriate weapon if you can.
  • Schedule Subject to Change:  While we always try to update our website with any SMAF changes, please note that the schedule is subject to change without notice.
